TEST running on the first section of Luxembourg’s light rail network was officially launched by minister of sustainable development Mr François Bausch, the city’s mayor Mrs Lydie Polfer, and city council leader Mrs Sam Tanson at a ceremony at Luxtram’s Kirchberg depot on July 12.
Initial dynamic tests will take place on the section along John F Kennedy Avenue between Coque and LuxExpo stations. LuxTram says the 750V dc overhead electrification was energised on this stretch on July 10.
CAF was awarded an €83m contract in May 2015 to supply 21 45m-long bidirectional Urbos vehicles for the first phase of the network. The first vehicle arrived in Luxembourg on February 8.
Passenger services are due to begin operating on the initial section between LuxExpo and Pont Rouge on December 10.
