Passenger numbers at Liszt Ferenc International Airport in Budapest rose to 1.33 million in July, a by 15.4 percent increase over the same period last year, operator Budapest Airport said on Wednesday.
Passenger numbers were higher than usual because the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Budapest and Balatonfured, and the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix were both held in July. At the Grand Prix, a record 186,000 spectators turned up for the four-day-event, which surpassed previous expectations, according to organisers. Due to all this, 10,729 tonnes of cargo (such as suitcases) were transported, and the combined number of arriving and departing flights was 10,097 in July.
The most popular destinations were London, Paris and Amsterdam.
